JOB SUMMARY: 
In partnership with the Technology Leadership and associated business partners, work to achieve an optimized mix of project investments, maximizing the use of all resources in delivering value and return from projects and programs in the portfolio. Serve as the primary contact for various governance and finance-related steering committees, and senior executives for communications, and for reporting the state and performance of initiatives within the portfolio.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Owns all aspects of one medium complexity Portfolio. Ensures adherence to the appropriate governance relating to the portfolio, in accordance with the organization’s guidelines, policies and practices.

  • Drives the development and maintenance of communications and reporting about the portfolios, their contents, and the performance of individual initiatives to steering committees, governance boards, stakeholder teams, and senior executives.

  • Accepts responsibility when missed deadlines affect major project outcomes. 

  • Delegates effectively and efficiently, demonstrating mastery of time management through prioritization. 

  • Works with business areas to identify and categorize new projects for a decision on entry to the portfolio and provides regular updates on pipeline.

  • Conducts regular updates with the senior executive bodies and business partners to communicate any major issues and provide recommendations and action plan for resolution.

  • Ensures and balances the availability of the required skills and competencies across project and program teams within the portfolio, as mandated and resourced by leadership.

  • Directs the creation and maintenance of the required portfolio documentation and artifacts.

  • Provides long-term strategic group/area planning and operational oversight for a portfolio of projects.

  • Ensures effective prioritization and road mapping.

  • Supports portfolio control boards, project assurance teams and quality review meetings.

  • Formulates objectives and priorities ensuring that the current year plan is executed upon.

  • Identifies, prioritizes, and initiates new projects, ensuring alignment with business priorities and communicating priorities and rationale to senior stakeholders considering both current-year, and future year interests.

  • Authorizes the structure of portfolios and is responsible for alignment with business strategy & objectives and with emerging IT and digital opportunities.

  • Prepares necessary data for business cases in a relevant format to support their business partners outline the benefits of the new technology or solution they are intaking.

  • Establishes clear governance framework and reporting regime aligned to Management of Portfolios best practice. Coordinate reporting from projects and provide analysis of performance at portfolio level for review by governance bodies.

  • Identifies and monitors portfolio risks (threats and opportunities), planning and implementing responses to them and responding to other issues impacting the portfolio.

  • Solves escalated issues and provides problem-resolution tactics, giving due respect to the views, opinions, and concerns of all parties.

  • Advises on the available standards, procedures, methods, tools and techniques for portfolio management. 

  • Encourages open and transparent conversations to effectively address real or potential difficulties and challenges.

  • Hires, leads, and develops a team of strategic professionals with the goal of optimizing technology to drive accelerated business outcomes. technology to drive accelerated business outcomes.

  • May drive process improvements within or outside their own portfolio that benefit the broader organization or practitioner community. Contributes to or drives process improvements within their own department/ portfolio.

  • Realigns resources to meet changing internal and external business needs.

  • Understands financial concepts and how LOB(s) technical portfolio impacts LOB financially.

  • Establishes financial milestones and reviews and reports on financial metrics. Manages and drives budget process in collaboration with finance.

  • Collaborates with business partners and senior director to review financial performance metrics and to create IT business cases.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Maintains agility when faced with unexpected challenges and models resiliency when facing obstacles.

  • Through regular reviews, validates and assesses the project portfolio, executes change and reprioritization as necessary to meet business needs.

  • Proficient in conflict resolution, experienced with project management tools and methodologies, highly flexible and resilient, able to delegate, provide leadership and accountability, possesses an understanding of project financials and measures of performance, and able to think strategically about portfolio shaping.

MANDATORY EXPERIENCE:

  • 7 years’ experience people management and/or team lead experience

  • 10 years of experience in IT or related business/industry with 2 or more years of IT governance/portfolio management experience. 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • PMI/PMP Prince2 or related certification.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems or a related field, M.B.A., or equivalent education and experience.

  • Experience with Agile Methodology or CSM certification 

  • Management of Portfolios (MoP) or P3O certifications

  • Demonstrated experience in managing “upward” among senior leadership.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading diverse teams.

  • Experience driving large, cross-functional program delivery and project management experience.

  • Experience with Agile Methodology or CSM certification

  • Experience in a strategy consulting environment.

  • Experienced thinking strategically about portfolio and projects, considering audits/regulatory work/legal activities, impacts on the wider organization, and partners across the organization.

  • Experienced in holding team members accountable for new performance standards and expectations by providing feedback and taking action as needed.

  • Experienced building partnerships and alliances to foster collaboration and alignment within the organization and with technical thought leaders.

  • Skilled in developing trust among various parties involved during a negotiation process.

  • Experience incorporating diverse perspectives into all facets of work, demonstrating emotional intelligence throughout interpersonal interactions, and mentoring others to grow in emotional intelligence.
