The role is responsible for the coordination/delivery of CDL and delivery driving training to Sysco’s Delivery Drivers.  The Supply Chain Instructor will deliver standardized curriculum to prepare employees for the CDL exam.  Training will consist of classroom-based study in addition to training on vehicle operation, trailer management, delivery execution and overall safety.  The Supply Chain Instructor will be responsible for managing and coordinating the delivery of driver training through Driver Trainers.   They will lead and oversee the training program and trainee performance. They will be responsible for training and leading the Driver Trainers that administer delivery driving training. The Supply Chain Instructor will assess the training evaluations of each employee, track performance and communicate progress towards completing the employee training to Market and OpCo leaders.  




  • Own the driver training program from end to end (hiring process through training to check-in milestones and retraining)
  • Lead and act as key point of contact regarding the training program and trainee performance
  • Possess extensive knowledge of DOT and state regulations in addition to the company policies regarding the operation of company vehicles
  • Facilitate and/or manage training and standard curriculum to include classroom-based study as well as hands-on training provided by Driver Trainers on vehicle operation, trailer management, delivery execution and overall safety
  • Identify, train and lead Driver Trainers for the execution of delivery driver training
  • Deliver standardized curriculum to prepare employees for the CDL exam (Green Book)
  • Responsible for the coordination/oversight of CDL and driver training to Sysco’s Delivery Drivers (Blue Book)
  • Establish and execute a process to ensure all training manuals and assessments are properly documented and stored according to regulatory and Sysco’s record retention standards
  • Track, monitor and communicate Driver Trainee progress throughout the program
  • Conduct on-road assessments of trainer-trainee performance and compliance to training standards
  • Establish and complete regular assessments of trainers utilizing the trainer assessment process (including new hire retention and performance)
  • Follow up with Driver Trainees during the post training period for 30-60-90 check-in and feedback
  • Partner with Supervision to provide guidance on coaching and mentoring
  • Align with Leadership on training program and retention effectiveness
  • Work with Human Resources on pipeline and hiring process for new drivers



  • Execute train-the-trainer sessions for DriverTrainers
  • Deliver and supervise training to large groups of employees
  • Document open questions / parking lot items / feedback during and after class and work with Operations Leadership and subject matter experts to develop and provide responses
  • Lead / oversee cross functional partners / trainers to ensure that training is executed with focus on safety and overall operations specifically on delivery execution
  • Ensure readiness of all training materials
  • Manage training administration:
    • Confirm course materials are updated and classroom devices work prior to the start of class
    • Assess training progress and relevance of training materials
    • Track course attendance and communicate back to operations and OpCo leadership results
  • Assist with other duties as assigned or as directed 



  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Five (5) years of continuous commercial driver experience.  Touch freight delivery driving experience preferred.
  • Valid Class A CDL with a “clean” driving record and current MEC
  • 3-5 years of training delivery and facilitation experience

  • Ability to refine training programs and assess candidates within the training program to determine their readiness to operate Sysco equipment and perform customer deliveries
  • Capable of developing Driver Trainers including selection criteria of Trainers and level setting expectations
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Excellent presentations skills.  Comfortable in the presentation of materials to large groups of people
  • Professional written and oral communication skills to execute training program and communicate results to all levels at organization
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities utilizing outstanding time management and organizational skills
  • Effective problem-solving skills: must be able to work through and resolve obstacles and be persistent and persuasive to team and broader organization
  • Strong team-building skills; ability to work with different levels of personnel
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; able to communicate up and down the chain of command
  • Ability to have flexibility to accommodate changing priorities
  • Experience in facilitating training and utilizing strong coordination, organization and time management skills
  • Ability to track, monitor and assess trainees’ performance and make recommendations to trainees, team and leadership for continuing and improving execution


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone to talk and hear
  • The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds  
  • Limited travel, less than 10% is required 


  • Training will be conducted in a classroom environment as well as outdoors in normal and inclement weather conditions
