**Please note that we do not provide housing or housing stipends – the intern should either live in the greater Grand Rapids area in the summer (i.e. their permanent home, relative, friend, etc.) or be able to reasonably commute from their campus residence**
Internship period: 12 weeks, mid-May – early August (2019: 5/13/19 – 8/2/19)
The Sysco Internship Program provides students the opportunity to build on classroom learnings and engage with and learn from knowledgeable and experienced leaders and teams to create innovative, efficient solutions to move the business forward. During the 12-week, paid summer internship, interns will be immersed in the day-to-day operations of the company and exposed to relevant projects, challenges and problem solving in a dynamic Fortune 100 company. Interns will work with and be mentored by the brightest and best in the industry and receive valuable performance feedback from leaders. Various social activities provide networking opportunities for staff of all levels.
Focus of this Internship:
One intern will focus his/her learnings and projects in our Program/Contract Sales department at Sysco Grand Rapids. The Contract Sales department focuses on profitably growing sales through new business development and penetration opportunities with contract (corporate and local) & bid customers and prospects by building long-lasting customer relationships through top-quality products and services, innovative technology solutions and extraordinary sales associates. Specifically, projects that this intern may complete include: develop improved process/tool for tracking & sharing new business development activities and progress; create GPO Mapping Tool to enable Account Executives to efficiently navigate GPO options by customer need and segmentation; develop new and/or improved standardized tools to better streamline Account Executive workload/workflow for use in onboarding new accounts, onboarding new concepts and employee transition, such as call plan documents, customer presentations and executive briefs by customer; and lead project to migrate/convert Customer Service team new AT&T system and updated Call Center to implement customer service performance metrics tool for tracking and measuring performance of Customer Service team.
- Demonstrated leadership, problem solving, and strong verbal and written communication skills
Education and/or Experience:
- Current student pursuing bachelor’s degree with concentration in Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, Business or similar discipline
- Strong academic credentials (Minimum GPA of 3.0)
- Develop an understanding of the Sysco approach, methodology and tools
- Identify various business issues and provide solutions via research & collaboration
- Establish strong working relationships with client personnel
- Exhibit a professional, business-like demeanor
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments and manage ambiguity
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at various levels
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word)
