SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting to Corp Logistics, the Senior Manager, Global Logistics Trade Management is responsible for driving the strategy and management of Sysco Corp. international trade (importing & exporting) activities including all logistics operations. Will assist the Director, Global Logistics Trade Management in developing and maintaining knowledge of world class import/export practices for translation to business improvement opportunities. Will administer such activities and programs via third party service providers and intermediaries (e.g. freight forwarders, customs brokers) and ensure reliable and cost-effective logistics operations in compliance with all applicable laws, which include, but not limited to, the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and U.S. Customs Law, including Tariff Classification (HTSUS), Country of Origin marking, the Valuation of Imports (including intra-company transfer pricing) and rules of origin. Must identify, initiate, coordinate & implement process improvements within the entire supply chain to improve performance throughout within the framework of trade compliance laws and regulations. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Director, Global Logistics Trade Management in developing and maintaining knowledge of world class import/export practices for translation to business improvement opportunities. With a constant focus toward CI (continuous improvement) in service and cost, will ensure SOP’s (standard operational procedures) are in place and effective for both internal Sysco Corp stakeholders and third parties. Develop and manage supplier performance scorecards, facilitate stakeholder performance reviews, identify and lead CI initiatives. Support business case and lead implementation for leveraging strategic programs, such as Drawback, C-TPAT and ISA which would result in operational efficiencies, automation, accuracy and exceptional service to Sysco’s customers.
  • Manage relationships with third party service providers and intermediaries. Includes, but not limited to, NVOCC’s (Non Vessel Operating Common Carriers), Customs Brokers, LLP’s (Lead Logistics Providers), etc. Direct involvement with third parties to ensure legal(regulatory) and shipping requirements, bookings, document compliance, ocean carrier allocations, tracking & tracing, and all facets of logistics related to international trade to meet Sysco Corp. requirements and expectations. This includes, but is not limited to, implementing and monitoring internal and third party trade compliance audits.
  • Daily oversight of supply chain product flow from origin to destination; ensuring service and cost expectations are achieved within the framework of trade compliance laws and regulations to improve visibility for Sysco operating companies and/or its subsidiaries. Ensure shipments will have minimal delays clearing customs via compliance and observing all regulatory requirements. Maintain communication with customs brokers, Sysco’s forward warehouse and redistribution network, and internal departments involved with international trade.
  • Manage and improve the RFI (Request for Information) and RFP (Request for Proposal) process. This includes, but not limited to, rate and contract negotiations, qualitative and quantitative analysis and assessments, provider recommendation and selection, and implementation.
  • Financial and process responsibility by overseeing the audit and reconciliation, approval, and payment of invoices from third parties and to do so within contract payment terms. This will include, but not limited to, carrier, port, custom fees including duties paid and additional reviews in line with FCPA/anticorruption legislation. 
  • Strives to be the subject matter expert on International Trade Compliance matters as they relate to Sysco’s Operations. Builds understanding throughout Sysco Corp for compliance and takes an active role in evaluating functional processes and ensuring these are effectively communicated.  Fosters collaboration, to include, but not limited to our internal business partners in merchandising, and our extended supply chain network consisting of logistics, distribution operations, inventory management, and replenishment.

 

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills and ability to act as internal advisor are essential requirements for this position;
  • Strong analytical and quantitative (statistical) skills, ability to analyze data and make recommendations;
  • Solid project management experience, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects with varying deadlines effectively and on time;
  • Must be able to clearly and concisely articulate findings and summarize recommendations;
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to set and accomplish strategic goals;

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Preference for supply chain management, business or operations management, international business, or industrial distribution.
  • Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Licensed Customs Broker strongly preferred OR equivalent experience required
  • Preference for related industry and/or process management certifications from APICS, PMI, ASQ, and/or CSCMP

 

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in business, specifically logistics role with regulatory trade compliance responsibilities.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ supervisory with direct reports.
  • Two years of experience managing Trade Compliance automation projects
  • Expert understanding of regulations including U.S CBP (Customs Border Protection), HTS (Harmonized Tariff Codes) classification
  • Understanding of FDA (Food & Drug Administration), OGA (Other Government Agency) clearances, and Federal & International Hazardous Material Regulations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Electronic Export Information filing requirements, HTS/ECCN classification and Customs Valuation
  • Having previously implemented, or involved in, C-TPAT and ISA certifications with the CBP is highly desired.
  • At least three years of Project Management experience in a multi-dimensional environment
  • Preference for experience in cold-chain logistics, service function within a supply chain organization, etc.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Preference for experience in cold-chain logistics, service function within a supply chain organization, etc.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with LEAN and Six Sigma.
  • Bilingual or multilingual, including English language

 

ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Expertise in logistics role with regulatory trade compliance responsibilities
  • Demonstrated skills in project management required
  • Ability to manage a critical team participating in an ongoing cross-functional team environment
  • Proven proficiency in an automated trade compliance environment
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask through effective time management
  • Positive attitude toward customer service in meeting the needs of internal and external business partners
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) is required
  • Experience in training and use of tier-1 TMS and/or ERP systems (SAP, JDE)
  • USA Customs Broker License strongly preferred.
  • Preference for Bilingual or multilingual candidates
