POSITION SUMMARY

This is a Sales position responsible for promoting the company’s products and services and for building relationships with new and existing accounts.  The main focus is to help Sysco customers succeed while achieving sales and profit goals established by the company.  This is a 100% sales commissioned opportunity with a salaried based training.

 

This position often requires working non-traditional hours {evening, weekends and holidays} in order to successfully meet customers’ needs. 

 

Must reside within the territory applying for.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop new business, penetrate existing accounts, and minimize lost business to achieve profitable sales growth and special objectives within assigned territory.
  • Seek and qualify prospects in accordance with Company account stratification goals.
  • Research customer business needs and develop a mix of products and service to meet needs. 
  • Evaluate market trends and recommend products to customers, based on business needs and goals.
  • Be informed of market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales; share information with customers as part of value-added services provided.
  • Maintain ongoing inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

SALES ACTIVITIES:

  • Develops, on a daily basis, a product mix penetration of each account by selling all major product categories through the presentation of new products, services, ideas, uses and applications in an effort to meet all established sales and profit objectives; demonstrates a working knowledge of all product categories sold.
  • Develops and maintains a list of prospective accounts and sales forecasts to ensure complete market coverage and long-term sales efficiency.
  • Develops prospective accounts through market analysis, personal and telephone contacts, and other sales techniques to ensure complete market coverage and long-term sales efficiency.
  • Maintains, on a daily basis, a product price book, merchandising material, route list, and lead list to enhance sales activities through planning based on accurate and precise information; completes and up-dates, on a daily basis, all applicable sales forms and call reports to ensure a complete and timely flow of sales information.
  • Sells, on a daily basis, excess and/or obsolete inventory items, as identified, through special customer contacts and sales techniques in an effort to reduce product waste and unsatisfactorily high inventory levels.
  • Daily merchandising research on product discounts, product service information, special offers and/or company promotions; utilizes information in sales activities in an effort to increase profitability and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Attends all department sales meetings, as scheduled and participates in other activities as requested; reports on industry/market competition as requested; assists with reviewing inventory levels.

 

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

  • Provides service to existing accounts, on a daily basis, through proper salespersonship, service, or response to complaints in an effort to retain/enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Notifies supervisor immediately if an existing account is determined to be in jeopardy of being discontinued to ensure that every possible effort is made to retain that account.
  • Update customers, on a continuous basis, about any new products/services and pricing information to retain/enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Checks messages, on a continuous basis, for customer complaints, problems, or interests and takes the necessary actions in an effort to retain/enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Responds to any customer questions or inquiries by providing relevant information or obtaining the information from the appropriate source and immediately relaying it to the customer in an effort to retain/enhance customer satisfaction.

 

CREDIT ACTIVITIES:

  • Maintains an appropriate average of accounts receivable days outstanding as determined by supervisor to maintain cash flow and profitability objectives.
  • Completes and routes to Credit Department a properly completed credit application for new accounts, as needed, to ensure a complete and timely flow of sales information.
  • Provides customers with relevant information concerning company credit terms to avoid interruptions in cash flow and to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures that customers are adhering to company credit terms and notifies supervisor and applicable departments if a problem exists to avoid interruptions in cash flow and to ensure profitability.
  • Perform any additional tasks as directed by management personnel.

 

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent {General Education Degree – GED}.
  • One or more years’ experience working in a sales position in produce or food distribution.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree strongly preferred in the areas of: Business, Agriculture, Horticulture or Nutrition.
  • Experience as either a chef, foodservice/catering operations manager, or procurement manger is preferable.

 

CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Intermediate computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite {Word, Excel, PowerPoint}
  • Meet Sysco USA Standards for Non-CDL Driver Candidate MVR.
  • Obtain and maintain Sysco Personal Auto Limits.
  • Qualify for Sysco casualty pooling program.

 

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.                   
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings.
  • Ability to apply all relevant policies in a consistent, timely and objective manner.
  • Capable of working with peers and associates from other departments, operating companies and Corporate in a proactive and constructive manner.
  • Ability to work in a disciplined manner and capable of following established procedures, practices and comply with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Ability to manage the pressures and stress associated with a deadline-oriented atmosphere and customer service issues.  Demonstrates skill in making independent decision in support of company policies and procedures in a timely manner.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 
    • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers. The associate is frequently required to operate office equipment such as computers, telephones, facsimile machines, 10-key calculators, etc. The associate is occasionally required to bend, stoop, reach, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  This position will require regular travel via a personal automobile which may result in long periods of sitting.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
