The Data Governance (DG) Analyst is a core Data Governance Program Office member who ensures that business requirements and vision are aligned with processes, technical standards and capabilities, and are incorporated into ongoing data strategy and initiatives. This role brings strong analytical skills to drive data standards monitoring and reporting using metrics and tracking, data lineage, daily review of business requests, and oversees data quality reporting.


  • Support the DG Manager in strategy planning, roadmap development, and risk reporting and monitoring.
  • Manage and maintain all data governance related documentation (e.g. process documents, data dictionary, definitions, business rules, etc.) for Customer, Item, Supplier and other data domains. Drive maintenance of all relevant documentation into the DG tool.
  • Monitor and analyze data quality and overall data governance metrics to identify significant systemic trends requiring attention. Drive the daily triage with data governance resources to assure all requests, risks, and issues are tracked and managed.
  • Partner closely with various DG business teams to identify new data initiatives, determine priorities, and run initiatives as needed. Drive delivery and implementation of data quality initiatives to ensure organizational goals are met.
  • Use expert analytical skills to identify, analyze and lead the resolution of data quality and governance issues. Assist business teams in identifying, analyzing and quantifying the financial impact of data quality issues to Sysco.

Education and / or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems Management, Statistical Analysis or related field (an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered).
  • Master’s Degree in an information technology or business administration field focused on information management or digital communications preferred.
  • 3-5 years of proven and progressive data analysis / data governance / data management experience
  • Active or recent lead in a Data Analysis project
  • Strong knowledge of Data Governance, Data Quality, and Master Data Management concepts
  • Understanding of Customer, Item (material) and Supplier (vendor) data domains highly preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience of using a Data Governance tools (e.g. Informatica Axon, Collibra, etc.) highly preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of project lifecycle management methodologies and best practices. Minimum 3 years food service or related industry experience preferred
  • Project management experience in both large and small-scale projects is an advantage
  • Experience working in and knowledge of wholesale distribution preferred
  • Prior SQL development experience is preferred both building and troubleshooting SQL would be advantageous
  • Strong experience in assigned functional area processes and procedures
  • Experience in assigned functional area processes and procedures

Professional Skills:

  • Proven analytical skill with data management initiatives
  • Strong skills in data quality tools such as Informatica Data Quality (IDQ)
  • Query development (e.g., SQL) experience is preferred knowledge of and experience of using a Data Governance tools (e.g. Collibra, Datum, etc.) highly preferred
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with data steward and data curator resources
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior organizational and prioritization skills
  • Strong negotiation, communication and influencing skills
  • Understanding of data quality reporting methodologies and capabilities
  • Advanced Microsoft Office user (WORD, PowerPoint; Excel; Visio; MS Project)dynamic environment while managing associated stress
  • Comprehensive knowledge / understanding of support processes and methodologies. (e.g., incident management, change control management, service validation and testing, etc.)
  • Experience with and competence in using integrated ERP software is desired
  • Ability to articulate ideas to technical and non-technical staff and end users
  • Superior problem solving abilities
  • Flexible; readily accepts new changes and is viewed as a change champion; open to new ideas
  • Maintains positive attitude and helps to promote in others
  • Proven ability to identify, focus on, and own high priority issues and tasks
